What is Twelve?
Twelve is a free customizable service that provides menstrual products to shelters, organizations, and the individuals who need them.
Together we can restore dignity to menstruators, ignite the conversation around menstrual health and eliminate the stigma around periods.
The Problem
Shelters in Toronto do not receive targeted funding for menstrual products meaning that they either use part of another targeted budget or more commonly rely on donations.
On average a menstruator will spend $5,600 using 11,000 menstrual products over the course of their life.
Due to the cost of menstrual products those who can’t afford them have reportedly resorted to alternatives such as rags, tissue paper and newspaper, as a replacement for safe menstrual products.
We firmly believe that no menstruator, regardless of their circumstances, should ever have to choose between their basic needs and their menstrual health.
⅓ of Canadian menstruators under the age of 25 say they have struggled to afford menstrual products.
Our Impact
Regardless of the barriers that one may face, our goal is to make every donation as impactful as possible. We do this by diversifying where we donate ensuring that we can meet the needs of as many menstruators as possible.
